Beatrice Koch (Switzerland) talks about her Mauna Loa experience: "My training at Mauna Loa Helicopter Flight Schools was an awesome experience! I came here from Switzerland without any knowledge about flying at all, and I wasn't really sure if I would be able to make it. But now I got my private pilot's license, I still can't believe it!!!"

Learn to fly in beautiful HawaiiAloha! Welcome to Mauna Loa Helicopters

Thank you for your interest in Mauna Loa Helicopters.  We conduct helicopter pilot training, aerial photography and helicopter tours on the Big Island of Hawaii, Oahu, and Kauai.  Hawaii offers a great infrastructure for flight training; convenient flight practice areas, less congested airspace, more favorable weather conditions and best of all, one of the most dynamic training environments on the planet.

When considering the flight school that’s right for you, keep in mind Hawaii’s environment, which includes high mountains, ridge lines and valleys, constantly changing weather conditions and the opportunity to fly in busy airspace in Honolulu.  Hawaii is an ideal place to get your helicopter pilot training and will no doubt be an unforgettable experience.

Fly near beautiful mountains, waterfalls and even active volcanosThe travel brochures have it right: Hawaii has near perfect weather year ‘round, which means you can fly just about any time you like.  There’s no extreme heat, high humidity, fog, sleet or snow to contend with.  The average daily temperatures here range between 75 and 85 degrees.  Except for instrument flying, we generally fly with the doors off.

Your flight training will present you with opportunities to practice bush, rugged terrain, mountain, and ridge line landings.  We are one of the few schools in the country that offers you Instrument, Instrument Instructor and Airline Transport Pilot Courses as well as external load training.  Mauna Loa has all the amenities of the largest helicopter pilot training schools and yet maintains the personal level of instruction that makes smaller schools so special.

Mauna Loa Helicopters owner, Ben FoutsMauna Loa Helicopters is FAA Part 141 approved, which means structured and efficient flight training.  Mauna Loa is also VA approved and is authorized by the U.S. Immigration to issue I-20 forms to foreign students to obtain M-1 student visas.

One of the huge benefits of training at Mauna Loa is our job assistance program.  The school has established a good reputation among operators and our instructor graduates have a leg up on the competition.
