Housing Options

Your housing options in Hawaii run the gamut. From beach side villas to dormitory style digs, accommodations can be found to suit your lifestyle and budget. Some students find housing on Craig’s List; others peruse sites such as HonoluluAdvertiser.com (one of two daily newspapers) and Rentalsillustrated.com to find lodging. This method can work well, especially if you are arriving with a partner or significant other.

For most students, however, Mauna Loa’s dedicated student housing fits the bill just fine. It means sharing a room with someone, but the advantages are that you can study together and motivate each other through your training.

A view of our student housing.

Student housing runs $475 per month on the Big Island and on Kauai; Oahu is slightly higher at $500, plus electricity. Student housing is obviously on a space-available basis, so call early when you decide that you want to train with us. As it is in any locale, you’ll have better luck finding suitable accommodations if you remain flexible. Once you’ve been on line and checked out your options you’ll have a better idea of what to expect. Call the MLH office on the island where you wish to train and we’ll advise you of the areas and neighborhoods in which you may want to focus your housing search.

Transportation

Incoming students generally buy a moped, motorcycle or used car to get to and from our airport locations, and then sell the vehicle when training is complete. Honolulu offers regularly scheduled bus service to the airport.
